To put it simply, to take the complex conjugate of something is just to replace <math> j </math> with <math> -j </math>. A star (<math> * </math>) is used to show that the complex conjugate is being taken. <br />

Example 1:<br />
<math> (a+jb)^* = (a-jb) </math><br />
<br />
Notice, it is just the sign of <math> j </math> that changed.<br />
